Jana Horváthová (fiddle), Katarína Cabanová (fiddle), Marián Petráš (viola), Marcel Sobota (double bass), Laura Kolačkovská (dance), and Jakub Gulík (dance) met during studies in the department of Ethnomusicology and Folklore at Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, Slovakia.
The main connecting element between these performers is a passion for Slovak traditional culture, music, and dance. Their musical interpretations are based on their knowledge of authentic material, to which they apply characteristic features.
In this concert, they will perform songs and dances from different regions, from the east through the middle to the west, and from the valleys to the lowlands of Slovakia.
Teresė Andrijauskaitė and Milda Andrijauskaitė-Bakanauskienė from Zarasai, Lithuania, are sisters who grew up in a family which was always surrounded by folk music and dance. Today, they continue to follow this path. They are currently studying Ethnomusicology at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater in Vilnius. Teresė and Milda mainly play fiddle, but they also play other instruments. The sisters also write their own songs inspired by folk music. Teresė came to Rauland as an exchange student in 2016, where she learned to play Hardanger fiddle.
